The Northern Burial Mound is situated at the northernmost point of the Northern Inner Enclosure. It is thought to have extended about 40 meters north to south and more than 27 meters east to west, with a height of 4.5 meters. Excavations up until this point have revealed 14 burial jars in the burial mound, ranging from the early to mid-Yayoi period. Precious burial accessories such as copper swords and cylindrical glass jewelry have been found in eight of them. In addition, in the eastern part of the burial mound, a great deal of earthenware used in religious ceremonies has been found, ranging from the mid- to late Yayoi period. This shows that religious ceremonies connected with the burial mound were still conducted even after people were no longer buried here. It is likely that the Northern Burial Mound was a site for prayers, as it was the resting place of the ancestral spirits protecting the Yoshinogari kingdom.
