Yoshinogari Keitai-Guide
This structure is assumed to be the residence of the high priest. It is thought that the high priest was similar to Queen Himiko of the Yamataikoku Nation. The Gishiwajinden recounts that Queen Himiko rarely appeared in front of other people. This suggests that the high priest lived in the sacred Northern Inner Enclosure, separate from the general members of the governing class. Based on folk customs and ancient Japanese literature, it is thought that it was customary to keep the site of religious ceremonies and residential areas separate. It is therefore likely that the high priest lived not in the ceremonial hall itself, but in a building located between the ceremonial hall and the Northern Burial Mound.
