Yoshinogari Keitai-Guide
This is the only pit dwelling in the Northern Inner Enclosure. What kind of people lived here? The Gishiwajinden states that the only people who had direct contact with Queen Himiko were men charged with the duty of looking after her meals and reporting her words. This description in the Gishiwajinden seems to suggest that this pit dwelling was the residence of attendants who waited on the high priest and looked after his everyday needs.
