Yoshinogari Keitai-Guide
This is the southern facade of the entrance to the Southern Inner Enclosure. Because of the moat, the earthwork embankment and the palisade, it is known as the Southern Defenses. There is a large gate tower on one side of the two gates. This gate tower has been restored from the ruins of an excavated four-pillared structure. Judging by the layout, it is likely that the function of the structure was to protect the Southern Inner Enclosure, and it is assumed to be a gate tower. Soldiers probably stood on top and kept watch on people approaching the Southern Inner Enclosure.
