Yoshinogari Keitai-Guide
Like the Southern Inner Enclosure, the Northern Inner Enclosure is surrounded by a double moat with a protrusion. It is clear that the central axis is aligned with sunrise at the summer solstice and sunset at the winter solstice, and in the interior, the remains of the structures are laid out so that the main axis joins the mid-Yayoi period Northern Burial Mound and shrine in the center. This suggests that the Northern Inner Enclosure was the spiritual center of the Yoshinogari kingdom, and that various religious ceremonies took place there. It was probably here that prayers were offered to the ancestral spirits that protected the country, the days for planting and harvesting rice were decided, and that various extremely important festivals for the Yoshinogari kingdom were held.
