Yoshinogari Keitai-Guide
In the area in the northwestern part of the Southern Inner Enclosure, remains of the moat were discovered on the east side, and remains of the palisade on the south side. Even though they are inside the Southern Inner Enclosure, it is thought that they were a separate area. Based on the fact that this was a special separate area, and the concept of space in the Yoshinogari moat-enclosed settlement assigned high-ranking people to the north, it is assumed that the group of pit dwellings in this area was the home of the highest-ranking person, the king, and his family, even though the area is among members of the governing class in the Southern Inner Enclosure. It is assumed that the king’s house was located near the front of the entrance to the special area, and the house connected to the back of it was the residence of the king’s wife and family.
