A halberd is a weapon like a spear with a handle attached, which is used to stab opponents. There are holes at the base of the halberd, and it is thought that the tip is attached to the shaft in this way. Ancient Chinese pictures indicate that the length of the shaft is the same as the height of a soldier. The halberd was actually used in this way as a weapon. It also had another use, not as a weapon, but as a ritual implement at festivals. Copper halberds used as festival implements were large, some reaching 90 centimeters. These halberds did not have a sharp edge, and there were no holes at the base for attaching a shaft. It is thought that this type of copper halberd came into being against a background of a religious belief in weapons in Yayoi period society, where kingdom fought against kingdom.
