Yoshinogari Keitai-Guide
The open space in the middle of the area is thought to be a plaza. In this plaza it is likely that the rice held for taxation purposes in the storehouses was inspected and threshed. In addition, in ancient Japanese and Chinese literature such as Japan’s ancient chronicle, the Kojiki, it is written that the market was a place where religious rituals took place, buildings connected with religious rituals, and symbolic trees and bushes could be found. It is assumed that this building in the plaza is a worship hall connected with the market’s religious ceremonies.
